2 things that can increase your chances of SSDI success

If you need to file a claim for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you likely cannot afford to wait too long to start receiving payments. Since you can only get SSDI when your condition prevents you from working, you won’t have money coming in, and you’ll likely have a lot of money going out to pay for medical costs on top of your usual expenses.

The following tips cannot guarantee your approval will be fast or that your application will be approved at all. They can, however, increase the chance of a speedy and positive resolution.

1. Stay alert for correspondence

Maybe you decide to go to your sister’s for a week or two because it’s warmer. Perhaps you decide to leave your laptop at home to avoid wasting days doomscrolling. Both those things are fine, but you need to ensure you won’t miss any replies or notifications concerning your application. Missing deadlines or having to reschedule missed appointments will only delay the process.

2. Be proactive in gathering evidence and information

You’ll need to present medical evidence to back up your claim. Getting appointments is not always easy, and there are often considerable waits. Rather than waiting for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to tell you what else they need, be proactive and try to gather all the documentation you could possibly need. It can speed things up. Then, if they ask you for a specific thing, you can just send it to them there and then.

Of course, if this is your first time filing an SSDI claim, you might not know what evidence you need. Getting experienced legal guidance can help you throughout the process and improve your chances of approval.
